Giorgian de Arrascaeta #10
MID · Flamengo · Icon in Brazil · Uruguay
Profile
A move to Europe is the ultimate goal for most footballers in South America. Not for De Arrascaeta. The 32-year-old is one of the best players on a continent he has never left. He won two Brazilian cups with Cruzeiro and is now an idol at Flamengo after picking up 20 trophies in seven years in Brazil, including three Copa Libertadores. Despite these feats, he has had his fair share of critics with the national team because he often fails to produce his club form in celeste colours. “Criticism is part and parcel of football and you get used to it with experience,” he says. He scored twice against Ghana in the final group game of the 2022 World Cup but events elsewhere consigned Uruguay to an early exit.
