Rekik has made the final 26-man squad after a rocky road with the national team. Called up in 2021 by former coach Mondher Kebaier, the 24-year-old defender had only played a few minutes for Tunisia, and even distanced himself from the national team setup. It was only after Sabri Lamouchi took charge that Rekik agreed to return. His older brother, Karim, has four caps for the Netherlands and Omar earned youth caps with the Oranje. The siblings moved together from Feyenoord to Manchester City, PSV, Marseille and Hertha Berlin, before Omar joined Arsenal in 2021 after Karim moved to Sevilla. Rekik did not play for the Gunners and was loaned out five times before joining Slovenian side Maribor last summer – but he could very well feature at this summer’s tournament.
