Yang Hyun-jun #20
MID · Celtic · Tactically astute · South Korea
Profile
Yang catapulted himself into the spotlight during the summer of 2022. Turning out for the K League All-Stars against Tottenham during the Premier League club’s pre-season tour of South Korea, the tricky winger left Eric Dier chasing shadows before unleashing a ferocious strike – a breakthrough moment to put his name on the map. Yang’s eventual call-up to the senior national team was met with a playful welcome from PSG’s Lee Kang-in. Having held the mantle of the squad's youngest player until Yang's arrival, Lee quipped that he was delighted to finally have "someone new to tease". A high-profile move to Europe beckoned in the summer of 2023, with Yang sealing a transfer to Celtic. The move saw him link up with compatriot Oh Hyeon-gyu, and the duo are now primed to showcase their synergy on the grandest stage of all at this World Cup. While naturally an out-and-out winger, Yang has recently demonstrated his tactical versatility, deployed as a dynamic wing-back for club and country.
