A player pursued by Bayern Munich after bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old at Hearts. Hickey has a tendency to do things his own way. Having moved from the Hearts academy to that of Celtic, he returned to Tynecastle through belief he would have more opportunity of first team football in Edinburgh. Hickey was proven right then and proved right once more; he snubbed the Bavarian giants to sign for Bologna, where his rise continued. But for injuries, it is hardly a sign of disrespect to Brentford to suggest he would be at one of the Premier League’s bigger clubs. Equally comfortable on left or right foot. Has emerged as the best option for Scotland at right-back. A tenacious, now powerful defender with technique which almost feels wasted in defence.
