It’s fair to say the 30-year-old would not have made his international debut in May under Hervé Renard. New coach Georgios Donis, however, had worked with the midfielder over two spells at Al-Wehda and quickly came to trust the player who started his journey in futsal. In the beginning, Al-Hejji was a defensive midfielder but, under Donis, he was also used further up the pitch. After spending his career at smaller clubs, finally got a big move to the ambitious Neom last summer. It took time to get playing time in the early part of the season but soon was in the starting XI to help the newly-promoted club finish in mid-table.
