Lajami upset Al-Nassr by leaving on a free transfer to join bitter rivals Al-Hilal in 2025. It was quite the controversy but the move was seen as the right one for the intelligent centre-back, who is able to bring the ball out of defence. “Lajami has great potential and I think Al-Hilal see in him the qualities they want – he needs the right environment,” said the former international midfielder Mohammed Noor. It looked as if his World Cup was over and he was dropped from the March squad by Hervé Renard but has been given a reprieve by new coach Georgios Donis. His twin brother, Qassem, has three caps for Saudi Arabia and was most recently on loan at Al-Taawoun.
