Brother of 2020 Olympic high jump gold medal winner Mutaz, Barsham has similar agility and has made a name for penalty saving prowess. Born in Sudan and, after the dismal opener at the 2022 World Cup, came in for the remaining two group games against Senegal and the Netherlands but still conceded five. Bounced back to be the best goalkeeper at Qatar’s 2023 Asian Cup triumph and is not short on mental fortitude. Not the tallest shotstopper at just below six feet but has the Barsham spring and can reach shots that others can’t. “He is capable of making amazing saves,” said former Qatar coach Felix Sanchez. “And he’s very professional, the kind of goalkeeper that all coaches want.”
