"There were many moments in my professional career when I doubted myself a lot,” told A Bola, the publication who named him Personality of the Year. “It wasn't expected that Vitinha would become a great player or that he could achieve anything. At least, that's the feeling I always had. That's what helped me, it was my fuel.” In fact, he added, “Luis Enrique believed more in me than I did myself.” The PSG coach is not afraid to give the midfielder some “constructive” criticism though. "My left foot is almost useless,” Vitinha says. “It's really bad. It's something Luis Enrique is on at me day and night to improve." A very humble person, he has said he wants to do everything he can to have the same influence with the national team that he has at PSG.
