Diogo Dalot #5

DEF · Manchester United · Burgeoning businessman · Portugal

Profile

Dalot admits he’s been on an “emotional rollercoaster” since joining Manchester United in 2018. He fell out of favour in his second season, writing in the Players’ Tribune in June: “I was ashamed of sitting in the stands. We’d be watching the game in the directors’ box, and the fans right next to us would ask me, ‘Why are you not playing?’ I didn’t even know what to say. I wasn’t injured. Just not selected. I was so embarrassed that I started going down to the dressing room to watch the game on the TV alone. When I got home I barely even said hello [to my mum]. I’d go downstairs, fire up the PlayStation, put Paranoid by Post Malone on repeat, and start thinking and thinking … What am I doing here?” He moved to Milan on loan in 2020, where he got to know Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who told him to invest in a padel business. “It was my first major investment on a personal level,” he told Forbes. Back at United a year later he worked hard to prove himself, and, in 2023-24, won Players' Player of the Year. Comes from a musical family. His parents met in a choir, his sister Mariana is a professional musician, and Diogo is United’s dressing room DJ. Matheus Cunha: “Diogo is an unbelievable DJ … he plays a little part of the world for everyone.”
