Édgar Yoel Bárcenas #11
FWD · Mazatlán · ‘El Mago’ · Panama
Profile
“El Mago” earned his nickname owing to his outstanding technical ability with the ball at his feet. The mazy dribbler made his senior debut for Árabe Unido, his boyhood club, and won multiple league titles before an initial move to Europe with Croatia’s RNK Split. Having won promotion to Mexico’s top flight with Cafetaleros in 2018, Bárcenas got a second shot at Europe with Real Oviedo. He shone in Spain, also playing for Girona and Leganés over a number of years in the second tier. The 32-year-old has become one of Panamanian football’s leading lights – three of his 100+ caps came at the 2018 World Cup and he was named in the team of the tournament at the 2023 Gold Cup. “I want to be more important for Panama and make history at the 2026 World Cup,” he says.
