Liberato Cacace #13
DEF · Wrexham · Influential · New Zealand
Profile
Cacace is a key All White, being named as a stand-in captain during Chris Wood’s injury-enforced layoff. He is building on a career that began as a teen at the Wellington Phoenix before attracting the attention of Belgian club Sint-Truiden. That led to four seasons with Italian Serie A club Empoli – the first Kiwi to play in Serie A, much to the delight of his dad, who is from Naples and introduced his son to football when he was just three years old. Cacace’s signing with Wrexham attracted huge publicity at home due to the popularity of the TV series, however, a run of injuries has made for a difficult start. Fun fact: Cacace’s dad toasted the deal with the Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson, and other club officials when they visited his restaurant in Wellington, as the side was preparing for a friendly against the Phoenix.
