Tyler Bindon #4
DEF · Sheffield United · Mr Calm · New Zealand
Profile
Bindon is following in his former Football Ferns goalkeeper mum Jenny’s footsteps by representing NZ at a World Cup. As a child Bindon was a common fixture on the sidelines of the Ferns’ training sessions. His dad, Grant Bindon, is a former New Zealand volleyball captain and met Jenny while they were students in Illinois. Bindon came through the Major League Soccer system but opted for the All Whites despite attracting interest from the US selectors at Under-19 level. It is believed Tyler and Jenny are the first mother and son duo to play football at the Olympics. Former All White captain Ryan Nelsen believes Bindon “ticks every box” to succeed in the Premier League (he has signed with Nottingham Forest and spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Sheffield United) and will go on to become New Zealand’s best ever player. “He’s got all the qualities needed, including his calmness under pressure when on the ball, he says. A goalscoring threat at the set-piece – and leapt high to head home from a corner for his first goal at Sheffield United with his parents over from NZ in the stands.
