Having been part of the team that reached the semi-finals in Qatar, Aguerd missed the game against France after picking up an injury during the warm-up. Physical set-backs have slowed the centre-back’s career but he has always found inspiration within his family. In 2023, after a difficult season with West Ham, Aguerd went home. “It was a good summer. I got to spend it with my family in Morocco. Throughout the year, they don’t see me enough,” he told the club website. “My little sister is at school in Morocco and the holidays don’t match up, so it’s hard to see each other. When she was on holiday, I was with the national team. I only saw my family twice last season, so I took the decision to spend my summer completely in Morocco with them. It was so wonderful.” After having surgery on a sports hernia in March, Aguerd chose to go back to Morocco in order to be in the best shape for the World Cup.
