Badawi earned his surprise call-up to the World Cup squad after injuries to Adham Al-Quraishi and Issam Al-Samiri, as well as the unexpected exclusion of Ahmad Assaf. He is expected to serve as the backup right-back behind the captain, Ehsan Haddad. Badawi earned his first cap in May’s 4-1 friendly defeat to Switzerland. He began his career with Al-Jazeera before joining Al-Faisaly last summer, but an injury shortly after his move sidelined him for a period of time.
