Amirmohammad Razzaghinia #26

MID · Esteghlal · Future star · Iran

Profile

The youngest member of Iran’s national team at this World Cup is a young midfielder who, after playing for the Under-16, Under-17, Under-20, and Under-23 teams, has delivered outstanding performances in the Iranian league over the past two seasons and was able to earn his place in the senior international side at the age of just 20. He made his full debut against North Korea last June and prefers to play as a defensive midfielder, though if he gets within sight of goal he also has a powerful and dangerous shot. In one of his few TV interviews, held a few days before the announcement of the final World Cup squad, Razzaghinia was unable to answer the host’s quiz questions about Iran’s previous World Cup appearances, the clip quickly going viral on social media. In that same interview, he said: “The match against New Zealand is our hardest game because it is the first match. We must definitely win this game, and after that we will think about the following matches.”
