Marcus Rashford #11
FWD · Manchester United · Social campaigner · England
Profile
MBE-holder, author and poverty campaigner who took on and beat Boris Johnson twice. Rashford arrived at the World Cup on a high after a restorative season at Barcelona. Last October he pointed to the high turnover of managers at Manchester United as a reason for his inconsistency there: “I feel like I’ve been in an inconsistent environment for a long time … In order to be consistent in anything, not just sport, you need consistent variables in your life. We’ve just had so many changes.” He was raised in Wythenshawe, the youngest of five, with his mum, Mel, working three jobs to keep the family going. His experiences informed his off-field work since. He co-wrote The Breakfast Club Adventures book series, and the self-help bestseller for children You Are A Champion. It starts with this dedication: “To every young person who is trying to find their way. To my mum, for helping me believe that dreams can come true.”
