Profile

The second Côte d'Ivoire-born England player after his former Palace teammate Wilfried Zaha. Left Chelsea for Palace, via a loan at Swansea, in 2021, and won the FA Cup there. Son of a church minister, he called last summer’s collapsed move to Liverpool and subsequent move to City in January: “God’s plan [coming] to full fruition.” Known for being calm and thoughtful, but he has his eye on a different future when football’s over. “I'd love to be a WWE wrestler,” he told the BBC. “Growing up, watching WWE … It can be dangerous but the performance side of it … I'm a good waffler on the mic … making people believe you're the bad guy or the good guy.” Spends his spare time reading or in the cinema “because no one goes to the cinema now, so it's nice to be in a cinema on your own”, and has plans to resume drumming. “I drummed at church for a long time. I drummed at school. I don't have a drum set but I really want one. That's a really good way to enjoy music and escape.”
