One of the most complete Ecuadorian defenders of his generation, known for tactical intelligence, clean ball distribution and versatility as a centre-back and left-back. Educated in the Independiente del Valle youth system, he moved to Talleres before shining at Bayer Leverkusen, and joined Arsenal on an initial loan deal last year. “It only took one conversation to make me feel sure about the decision that I was taking to come here. I'm over the moon … I want to win trophies for this club, to make a name for myself, and to leave a mark.” A full international from a young age, he has already played in a World Cup and the Copa América, and is developing into a real leader at the back.
