Fiston Mayele #19
FWD · Pyramids · Humble · DR Congo
Profile
Born in Mbuji-Mayi, the diamond-rich city in south-central Congo, Mayele is one of the rare representatives of what Congolese people often call the “deep Congo” within the national team – players who were developed locally rather than abroad. Aggressive and blessed with a striker’s instinct, Mayele combines precise finishing with strong ball control and relentless intensity. After breaking through in DR Congo, he dominated the Tanzanian league to such an extent that he still enjoys cult status there. His move to Egypt with Pyramids elevated him further, culminating in the club’s historic Caf Champions League triumph in 2025, when he was named player of the year in African club football. Despite the growing recognition, Mayele remains known for his humility and work ethic. “When you start rising, people naturally talk about you,” he says. “What matters is staying focused, continuing to improve, and showing more every time. I remain who I am – humble and simple.”
