Like his close friend Noah Sadiki, Antwerp-born Mukau chose to represent the land of his ancestors long before reaching senior level, committing to DR Congo as early as the Under-21s. “It’s a source of pride for me and my family,” he said after his first youth appearances. “Wearing this jersey means a lot to me, and I want to keep wearing it in the future.” For Belgian football, his decision hurt even more because, in terms of pure talent, Mukau may already be one of the most gifted players in the Leopards squad.
