Hranac grew up in a small town in western Czechia, far from major academies – so when his talent became clear, that had to change. At 14, he travelled 60 miles to a boarding school in Plzen while his parents worked across the border in Germany. The sacrifices paid off. These days he has a calm and reserved exterior, and can appear shy, but that disguises the real fight and passion inside him. ”Robin takes a lot of hits but never reacts or gets angry,” says his dad. “He has an extremely high pain threshold.” After just one impressive season in the Czech league he broke into the national team, marked Cristiano Ronaldo at Euro 2024, and earned an €8m move to Hoffenheim in 2024.
