When Van Eijma signed his first professional terms with Roda JC, he picked up an extra job delivering pizzas to top up his wages. “Sometimes I’d turn up at someone’s door with a pizza and they’d recognise me from a match. It took a bit of getting used to at first, but it’s funny too,” the centre-back told ELF Voetbal. He had to be creative, just like in his early days at Roda, where he started on €150 a month, making ends meet with help from his agent and parents. “The club gave us a studio to live in. I stayed there with other players, it felt more like a student house,” he says. A physically strong, commanding presence at the back for Curaçao, Van Eijma played for Preußen Münster and TOP Oss before landing at RKC Waalwijk in 2024.
