The only player still in the domestic league but that is not to say that he doesn’t have experience from playing abroad, having first joined Mouscron in Belgium at age 17 and then Fiorentina’s Primavera side. The talent was never in question, but his development had been hampered by a “mysterious” injury that caused him severe joint pain, while the club doctors insisted it was “all in his head”. He took a step back and returned to Croatia, eventually becoming the top flight’s star, making it to the national team and is now waiting for another move abroad. A creative attacking midfielder or a false nine who could be Croatia’s secret weapon at the World Cup, he started his career as a goalkeeper.
