Most fans in Croatia will only vaguely remember the goalie whose surname is one of the slang terms for a policeman; he left his native Rijeka after just one season in senior football and has since been playing abroad — for Verona, Fortuna Sittard and now Hull City. And although he was part of every national youth squad category from Under-15s to Under-21s, at the time of writing he is yet to make his debut for the senior Croatia team. Pandur is a yoga practitioner and a religious person, and his views on the Championship, the league where he currently plays, are rather interesting. “It’s brutal, a bit like rugby, it makes you tougher”, he says. “In every game you get punched with either an elbow or a knee. As long as I’m healthy, I’m enjoying it.”
