The former France youth international turned down a Côte d’Ivoire call-up three years ago but a senior cap for Les Bleus failed to materialise. After bursting on to the scene in the Champions League with Lens, the striker has had a difficult couple of years with Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt but he has found his shooting boots again on loan at Nice with seven goals since January, earning him another opportunity with Les Éléphants in March. “The people around me – my agent, my family – didn’t really want me to come to Nice,” Wahi told L’Équipe. “By signing for Nice in January, I was jumping into the wolf’s mouth, but I was sure of my decision.” Mobile and fast, he has the attributes to play as a loan No 9 or alongside a strike partner.
