One of Cape Verde’s long list of players whose family members also played for the Blue Sharks, Telmo Arcanjo followed in the footsteps of his older brother Fabio. But unlike his brother, Telmo has become a key part of Cape Verde despite suffering an ACL tear in May 2023. He described the recovery period as “14 months of immense pain, sacrifice, and a longing to step onto the pitch again”. The Lisbon-born attacking midfielder helped Vitória de Guimarães to win the Taça da Liga this season, the club’s third ever piece of silverware. In Portugal Arcanjo is best known for a moment in October when as he was coming off the bench against Famalicão but had his phone in his hand. There was an explanation though: he was talking to head coach, Luís Pinto, who was in the stands having been sent off in their previous match.
