Maxime Crépeau #16

Profile
Less than a month out from what was supposed to be his first World Cup in 2022, Crépeau suffered an unfortunate leg injury, one that ruled him out of the tournament and kept him out of action for almost a year. If you were to ask him if he’d change a thing, he’d say no. The injury came on a game-saving stop in the 2022 MLS Cup final between Crépeau’s LAFC and Philadelphia Union, which LAFC went on to win. "You don't cut corners [as a keeper],” he said later. “You have to go all out, and I went all out. This is how I play." A smaller keeper at 1.81m tall, Crépeau certainly plays much bigger than his height, as he is unafraid to protect his box and his net. With his quick feet and strong reflexes, he loves playing in the biggest games, as he showed when he helped Canada reach the semi-finals of the 2024 Copa América. He speaks French, English and – due to his wife’s family being from Chile – Spanish, and his little daughter likes to mix it up. “Sometimes my daughter will start a sentence in French, will finish it in Spanish, and in the middle she'll put one or two words in English in there.”
