Mathieu Choinière #6

MID · Los Angeles FC · Set-piece specialist · Canada

Profile

It’s not often that a player gets to live out the dream of becoming a star player with their hometown team, but Mathieu Choinière experienced that with CF Montréal, earning two MLS All-Star game places during his seven seasons at the club. His consistency didn’t go unnoticed. He made the leap into European football with Grasshoppers in 2024, then moved back to MLS with the Swiss side’s parent club, Los Angeles FC, last year. LAFC’s co-president, John Thorrington, praised his “experience, intelligence, calm authority and competitive edge … we’re also excited about the opportunity for Mathieu to represent his country on the biggest stage and proud to support him in that ambition.” In an LA team filled with star names, Choinière fits in perfectly with his work ethic and his versatility, having played as a wing-back and winger for Montréal before settling into central midfield. He is also one of Canada’s best set-piece takers.
