No matter where he goes, Alex Sandro collects trophies. After Athletico Paranaense (2008-2010), Santos (2010-2011), Porto (2011-2015) and Juventus (2015-2024), he came to Flamengo in 2024 and since then he has won every trophy there is to win in South America. He owes much of his speed, precision and technical focus to having spent plenty of time as a youngster doing capoeira, the traditional Brazilian non-contact martial art. “Even in Italy some coaches told me that some of the movements resemble capoeira,” he said. “My mother did it, my brother too; we have a history within it.” He always had a solid work ethic, too: as a boy he sold CDs and DVDs on the streets. His brother Flavio told Globo in 2022: “It was his way to get money to buy candy or whatever else he wanted.”
